How To Set Goals and Actually Achieve Them in 2019
The new year is fast approaching, and the usual “this is my year” status messages will be flooding the Internet. For the past couple of years, I have stuck to setting only a few very specific goals instead of lots of vague, non specific goals. I usually start setting my new year goals in October and I start taking action steps to achieve those goals before the new year even starts. Today, I am going to outline a few things that you can do to achieve your goals in 2019. Let’s go !
Start With The End in Mind
One of the methods that I have started implementing over the past few years is to start with the end in mind. Visualisation is the key, I visualise that the year is already over, how do I feel? Do you feel fulfilled and happy that you have achieved your goals for the year? Right now, close your eyes and imagine that it is December 2019, have you achieved the goals that you set out to achieve? Visualise the way you want to feel by the end of 2019, start there.
Write Down Clear Actions For Each Goal
Be very specific here, instead of just writing down the goal with a vague idea on how you are going to achieve this goal. Write down very specific things that you need to do achieve that goal. For example, you want to grow your YouTube channel to 100,000 subscribers by the end of the year. What do you have to do to get 100,000 subscribers?
-Research video ideas
-Create and post YouTube videos at least twice a week
-Engage in the YouTube community (post comments on other videos)
-Promote your YouTube channel by posting content outside YouTube such as on Facebook and Instagram
-Promote your YouTube channel offline too by handing out your business card and networking
-Learn about YouTube by reading books, listening to podcasts and watching videos about growing your YouTube channel
This is just an example of what you might want to do to grow your YouTube channel. For each goal you have, write down very specific action steps. You need to ensure that you have at least five specific action steps for each goal.
What Do You Need To Give Up?
If you have a specific goal in mind, you need to ask yourself what you are willing to exchange in order to achieve that goal. You have to sacrifice something in order to get what you want, nothing comes for free. For example, you want to write a book and get it finished by a certain time. You will probably have to give up some of your free time to get this done. Do you watch sitcoms and daytime television? You might have to give this up for a while to get your book finished. Do you want to lose weight? You will have to give up certain foods or exercise more to achieve this. Write down what you are willing to give up to get the things you want in 2019.
Forget About Perfection
The idea of perfection can sometimes stifle you or destroy your path towards success. Why is this? Let me give you an example, you want to start a blog, you do not have the money to pay an expensive web designer to get the blog up and running. You keep making excuses because you want it to be perfect, the days are passing you by, and time is ticking. Instead of focusing on perfection why not start with what you have?
