Hi Pink Vibe Tribe!
Welcome to the 3rd feature in our Women in Business Rock series where we feature established and up and coming female entrepreneurs and thought leaders. Today we beam a spotlight on personal development blogger and business coach Shavahn from The Girlfriend Lounge. Once again we delve into the mind of another intelligent, hard working and dedicated GIRLBOSS. Grab a coffee, get comfortable and let’s talk.
Pink Intrigue: Firstly, I would like to say thank you for taking the time to have a chat with us. Can you please introduce yourself to our fabulous readers?
Shavahn: Hello, thank you for having me. My name is Shavahn from Ohio, I am the owner of The Girlfriend Lounge, I blog on personal development, I also help women grow businesses, by consulting, coaching and helping them market their companies.
Pink Intrigue: When did you start your business, and what was your ultimate motivation to do so?
Shavahn: I started blogging about a year ago and I launched my business in November of 2017. My motivation was just from me wanting more out of life,I had these skills and was not using them. So I decided to turn what I’m good at into a business.
Pink Intrigue: If you could describe your business in one word, what would it be?
Pink Intrigue: What is your key mission?
Shavahn: My key mission is to help other women, who want to start businesses, but may not know where to start or those that may not have certain skill sets, and need guidance. I want to help them reach or surpass their business goals, as well as encourage them to reach their full potential.
Pink Intrigue: What makes you tick as a businesswoman?
Shavahn: Honestly, wanting that freedom and being my own boss. Being in control of my own future. I was told that the only failures are those that give up. So I keep going until I’m where I want to be in my career.
Pink Intrigue: What Challenges have you faced as an entrepreneur and how have you overcome those challenges?
Shavahn: Time, not having the time to put in to my business like I need to. It can be challenging trying to build up a your company when your time seems limited, or if you don’t have the help. I see how hard it is, which is why I stated consulting and coaching, so that other women could have someone along the way. Because without a staff or a business partner, it can be difficult.
Pink Intrigue: Female entrepreneurs are the fastest growing group of entrepreneurs in the USA and many other locations around the world including Africa Why do you think this is?
Shavahn: I think that now women have become so independent, and we have the skills and the ambition to change our lives. Women are so strong, creative and smart. So why not be your own boss !
Pink Intrigue: Do you have a daily routine that helps motivate and push you to succeed?
Shavahn: I honestly don’t, but I need to have a good routine to help keep me on track sometimes, lol. But I am a planner, I love planning my every move. Which is funny because I teach my clients to have a routine to help them stay on track, so I need to do better, lol.
Pink Intrigue: Favorite quote?
Shavahn: “There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going” by Beverly sills.
Pink Intrigue: Favorite female boss?
Shavahn: Necole Kane (xonecole.com) and Ayesha Curry, I just love Ayesha lol, she does it all !
Pink Intrigue: Do you have any recommended personal development books?
Shavahn: One of my favorite book is Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyers.
Pink Intrigue: Goals for 2018?
Shavahn: Just to keep growing as person, and to continue to learn all that I can.
Pink Intrigue: Do you have any advice for up and coming female entrepreneurs?
Shavahn: One of the best things that you can do is to find someone that has been in your shoes before to help you reach your goals, so that you can avoid making the same mistakes they did. On days when you lack motivation or confidence, they can give you that much needed boost. Having a support system is vital, although it is possible to go it alone, I would strongly recommend that you get yourself a mentor or business coach.
Pink Intrigue: If you could write a letter to your teenage self, what would it say?
Shavahn: That there’s more to life than what is in your small city, get out meet people, learn and don’t be afraid to grow, and to be who you want to be, not what people think that you’re “supposed” to me. Be you !
Pink Intrigue: Looking back, what would you have done differently in business?
Shavahn: I would have gotten a mentor, and hired outside help, to guide me where I lacked.
Pink Intrigue: Shavahn, you inspire, help and motivate others. What do you know for sure?
Shavahn: That we are put here to help each other, guide one another and support each other, us women can be a force to be reckoned with when we work together!
